Daydreamz artists spent the summer working with teen interns from ArtStreet to produce "7 murals in 7 weeks." They facilitated several youth groups in producing messages of PEACE thru sports and teamwork. Their 5' x 12' canvas murals will join the Art-Mile, and tour with others from around the world. The "Sports mile" will debut at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, and eventually join the other 10-miles of murals to wrap the pyramids in Egypt.
Art-Miles is working towards a "Decade of Peace," reflected in global expressions on canvas murals. Daydreamz is proud to be joining them again to "raise voices" for social awareness and change thru ARTS!

Daydreamz joins the Cow Parade
(click on photo for more images)
Daydreamz artists spent over 200 hours producing a "Mooolticultural" moooosaic cow ...
The
Daydreamz Gang, ages 35 to 75 years young, came together to
explore their creativity for this community
art exhibit.
Though inexperienced in mosaic, our shared vision of a world where all people
are valued equally for their gifts, despite their
differences, inspired us to
create this cow.
Her body is a rainbow mosaic of brilliant, multi-colored beads symbolizing the complex merging of many cultures. In varied languages and symbols beneath her beads, she echoes "peace, tolerance, unity, and diversity." On her horns, we also honor those famous or local, who champion the value of reaching our potential, together.

"Will
CHALK for ice cream"...was our motto at
La PIAZZA del ARTE 2006

Daydreamz and over 150 other artists, "took the streets", during the Larimer Arts street painting festival in mid June. It was a unique opportunity for artists of varied ages and experience to work side-by-side, for all to see. This type of arts festivity has been going on for centuries in Italy, much like street musicians. Here, we have few opportunities to witness art transform before our own eyes.
"It was a hot and hectic weekend, with over 150,000 people strolling around you while you created," says Starr T. one of the foursome that braved the heat & crowds to represent Daydreamz. "It was magical too though, as the noise of the crowd faded while you were down on the pavement, just painting." The group chose to recreate an image they did for last year's Art-Miles environmental mural project, a sunflower with the world at its center... with the simple message: "To Save the Planet, Ponder the Flowers."

“STOP the Violence” 2006 (click on photo for more images)
On May 18th at Shoemaker Plaza
in Confluence Park, Daydreamz hosted its' 3rd annual "STOP the
Violence" event. The picturesque
riverside setting attracted some 400 people with a line-up of hip-hop, poetry, survivor’s stories, and acoustic
guitar. Centerstage Starz, an award winning youth dance troupe,
also presented 2 poignant dance pieces focused with abuse.
Again, the scenic atmosphere of the river, surrounded by luminaries, the candlelight vigil, and musical sharing were uplifting for both participants and passersby. Performers, agencies, survivors, supporters and artists attended from throughout Metro Denver. Last years event won state recognition for “Prevention & Education,” in an award from CCASA, (Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault), this years event has been nominated for another statewide award.
This is an annual event, created by, for, and about survivors of abuse... for more info, to offer your skills, or to become involved,

"Teardrops"- a reflection on the pain, grief, loss, healing, & joy of life without abuse
A
survivor’s gallery of visual art was part of the event again this year, as well as a
citywide exhibit of “Teardrops,” pieces from survivors here &
across the country. Participants
painted, decorated, collaged, wrote poems, or otherwise creatively
covered the teardrop(s) focusing on experiences, memorials, healing, and life
beyond domestic violence and/or sexual assault. The
teardrops were displayed in 9 galleries throughout Metro Denver, during the month of April, for Sexual Assault
& Child Abuse Awareness month. We
look forward to bringing more survivors' "voices" to the public next
year, thru this unique exhibition.
